Notes
Reef dive, about a 5-minute boat ride from the Big Fin resort. Visibility was not as good as most of the other sites we did, but a storm was coming in so they didn't want to go too far afield. Fairly shallow dive, with a lot of lost/discarded fishing lines on the reef that have, over time, been incorporated into the coral structure. Great fish life with lots of anemone fish, large schools of fusiliers, and other fish higher in the water column. The highlight of the dive was a young remora that decided it wanted a ride. Neither Camilla's nor my fins were to its liking, with it attaching momentarily and then disconnecting again. But still unable to be discouraged, it kept following us, deciding on a new approach. It then tried our dive master Eleng's purple fins, which it thought were perfect. It stayed attached for around the last 15 minutes of the dive. Attempts to shoo it away by hand were ignored, with it just moving to another side of the fins to avoid the disturbance. It stayed attached during the safety stop and ascent, with it only finally being removed at the surface after she had removed the fins. It swam back to the depths, obviously disappointed with its short-lived ride. Dived with Big Fin Divers Kota Belud.
