This was the compulsory orientation dive on the wreck, which involves following the wreck from bow to stern in the shallows so dives can orient themselves with the enormity of the wreck. Before attempting penetration of the wreck or further exploration at deeper on the outside. The wreck of the Mikhail Lermontov is impressive, lying in 38 metres of water on its starboard side.
